Marseille Weather is typically Mediterranean. No surprises there then, especially given the city’s location on the south part of France. Needless to say, weather in Marseille is characterized by its mild and rather humid winter season, as well as its hot and dry summers. However Marseille Weather remains predominantly mild throughout the year, which along with its coastal location, make it a popular tourist destination, attracting hordes of visitors at any given time of the year.

Marseille Weather is at its absolute finest during the summer season. During this time, mercury rises to around 30s°C during the day, dropping slightly when evening sets in. However even after the sun goes down, temperatures remain rather warm, usually hovering around the mid-20°C. Although rainfall should be completely ruled out, its presence is rather sparse and insignificant. July and August are the warmest months of the year, with temperatures often brought down to a significantly more comfortable 25°C.

When autumn rolls in, weather in Marseille retains its fine disposition, although the chance of showers is significantly increased. As a matter of fact, autumn along with spring (both seasons have many similarities in weather patterns) are considered to be the wettest seasons of the year. Although precipitation usually falls in the form of light showers, visitors are advised to pack something warm and possibly waterproof in their luggage, as that torrential downpours should not be ruled out completely. As a general rule though, Marseille Weather during both seasons is characterized by warm daytime temperatures, and its cool, mild mornings and evening.

Marseille Weather is also renowned for the Mistral. Originating in the Rhône valley this harsh, cold wind makes an appearance mostly during the spring and autumn season; usually appearing without any form of warming, its hot and dry tendencies often force temperatures to drop considerably, and in the process changes what shapes to be a fine, sunny day into a rather cold one.

During the spring and autumn, a cold north-easterly wind known as the Mistral can strike, often with very little warning. This hot, dry windy weather can cause temperatures in Marseille to plummet, suddenly turning a pleasant day into a very cold one. Weather in Marseille is also not avert to the occasional visit from a hot sand-bearing wind, coming from the Sahara Desert, Known as the Sirocco it appears significantly less frequent than the Mistral.

With daytime temperatures averaging at 10°C, January and February tend to be the coldest months of the year. Winters in Marseille are known for the rather low rainfall they experience, making the whole region one of the driest in France. Marseille Weather remains fine for most part of the year, although frosty spells can occur, often as late as March and even April.
